It has been confirmed that the government led by President Ranil Wickramasinghe has lost the majority of 113 MPs for the first time in the voting held to adopt the 22nd constitution.
Although 179 votes were received in favor of the 22nd amendment, it received the support of only 93 MPs from the ruling party.
Although 134 members of the Parliament voted for Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe to be appointed as the President, after the independence of the members, the Ranil-Dinesh government actually had only 122 members in the Parliament.
But during the voting for the 22nd amendment, 11 of them were abroad, and it can be assumed that only three of them who hold ministerial positions can vote in favor of the Ranil-Dinesh government.
On the other hand, 13 MPs did not come for the poll citing various reasons. Some of them had left the parliament to ask for the vote.
Accordingly, even considering the number of MPs who were abroad, it has been confirmed through this poll that the Ranil-Dinesh government does not have the support of even 100 MPs.
The 22nd amendment was passed because 51 opposition members and 35 independent members voted in favor of it.
