Bangladesh have appointed former Sri Lankan batsman Hashan Tillakaratne as the head coach of the women’s team for the next two years.

Tillakaratne, the current Sri Lankan women’s head coach, will arrive in November to take up the responsibility.

Nadel Chowdhury, BCB women’s cricket chairman, confirmed the development, adding that they finalized the deal during the Asia Cup, played in Bangladesh recently.

“We have appointed Tillakaratne for next two years as the head coach of our women’s team and we are expecting him to arrive in November to take up the responsibility,” said Nadel.

“We were looking for a coach for our women’s team for a long time but due to different reasons failed to do so but now we are happy to appoint a coach of his stature for our women’s team,” he said.

“He’s got huge experience not only as a player but as a coach as well and we feel he is the right person to guide our women’s team,” he added.

Bangladesh women’s team has been guided by local coaches since the departure of Anju Jain as BCB failed to appoint Mark Robinson though initially they were confident of roping him in.

BCB later gave the charge over to Shahnewaz but later changed him with his deputy AKM Mahmud Emon.
