The National Building Research Organization has warned of possible landslides in five districts due to the prevailing heavy rains.
The NBRO has issued Level 1 Warning (yellow) alert for Kegalle, and Ratnapura districts and Level 2 Warning (Amber) alert for Galle, Kalutara and Nuwara Eliya districts.
Level 2 Warning Alert has been issued for Akmeemana, Galle Four Gravets and Baddegama DS Divisions in the Galle district, Palindanuwara, Walallawita, Dodangoda, Ingiriya and Bulathsinghala DS Divisions in the Kalutara district and Ambagamuwa DS Division in the Nuwara Eliya district.
NBRO has urged the public in landslide prone areas to be vigilant on possible landslides, slope failures, rock falls, cut slope failure, and ground subsidence and to be prepared to evacuate to a safe location, if necessary.
The Department of Meteorology forecasted more showers or thundershowers in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North- Western and Northern provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.
Heavy showers above 100 mm may be expected at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.
General public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thunderstorms.
