State audit officers have urged the government to cancel a Rs 380 mn tender for the procurement of glucometers from an Indian company that has not even registered it. They have asked the government to call for a fresh tender.

Health sources said that two officials of the Medical Supplies Division and an official of the Health Ministry have finalised the deal to utilize Indian credit line to procure these items.

Audit officers have pointed out that though the relevant officials asserted that the Indian credit line could be utilised for this purpose, it may not be possible. An Assistant Director at the Health Ministry has been transferred to another section in the wake of her refusal to cooperate with those behind the deal.

Sources said that the Health Ministry has chosen the Indian company, under controversial circumstances, regardless of offers made by seven companies registered here to provide one glucometer at between Rs 12 and Rs 32 whereas the Indian supplier offered it at Rs 38.
