Isuru Bandara, the main associate of Thilini Priyamali, arrested over embezzling billions of rupees from businessmen and politicians, was allowed to meet visitors at the main office of the Magazine Prison, sources said.
They said senior prison officers had authorised the special facility.
Bandara is taken to meet visitors in the morning and he spends the rest of the day in the office of a jailor, according to sources.
Bandara also uses phones of prison officials to make calls, officers said. When Bandara and Priyamali are taken to Colombo Fort Magistrate Court, they are entrusted to a prison officer, allegedly involved in many corrupt activities. The Fort Magistrate has earlier asked Prison officers not to involve the above mentioned officer in court-related activities.
