A number of female teachers across the country reported for duty yesterday (21), wearing clothes other than the sari.
A number of teachers said that they had done so as the prices of saris had increased.
Given the current economic crisis, and the difficulties in transport, it had become hard to wear saris to work, teachers said.
The Ministry of Public Administration has issued a circular allowing state officials to wear casual clothes, some teachers have said in social media posts.
Earlier, the teachers’ unions asked the Secretary to the Ministry of Education to allow female teachers to wear casual clothes to school.
