The Navy took into custody five persons on Friday (03) evening following the interception of a dinghy carrying two kilos and 156 grams of gold, off Oluthuduwai, Mannar.
A senior SLN official said that the stock of gold was to be smuggled to South India. A motorcycle and a three-wheeler used by the suspects were also taken into custody.
The suspects in custody are residents of Vankalei and Mannar. They along with the gold and other vehicles were handed over to the Customs Preventive Office, Kankesanthurai for legal proceedings.
