Sri Lanka will sign an agreement with Maldives on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, cabinet spokesman Dr Bandula Gunawardena said on Wednesday (6).The cabinet this week approved a proposal on this put forward by Minister of Justice Wijeyadasa Rajapaksha.
“Sri Lanka’s cabinet had previously approved mutual legal cooperation on criminal matters with Maldives,” Gunawardena said. “However, the Maldives had a few amendments to the proposed agreement which is why this hasn’t happened earlier.”
A revised new draft prepared with the agreement of both parties has received clearance of the Attorney General, Gunawardena said.Once the agreement is signed it will be ratified by the diplomatic missions of the two countries. (ECONOMYNEXT)
