News Room : Fairly heavy showers likely at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces – The Island

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the morning.

Showers will occur at times in Eastern, Northern, North-central and Uva provinces and in Matale district. Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 p.m. Fairly heavy showers about 75 mm are likely at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces.

Winds will be north-easterly and wind speed will be (20-30) kmph. Wind speed may increase up to (40-45) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Colombo to Mannar via Puttalam and from Galle to Pottuvil via Matara and Hambantota.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Colombo to Mannar via Puttalam and from Galle to Pottuvil via Matara and Hambantota will be fairly rough at times but strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

The public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
