The name of President’s Counsel Faizer Musthapha has been sent to the Election Commission for the remaining National List seat that was reserved for the New Democratic Front, which contested under the Gas Cylinder symbol at the General Election 2024.
According to the results of the 2024 General Election, the New Democratic Front won three Parliamentary seats and two national list seats.
Former Minister Ravi Karunanayake was previously appointed to one of the national list seats.
The United National Party, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the The People’s United Freedom Alliance contested the General Election under the New Democratic Front.
Meanwhile, various parties requested the New Democratic Front authorities to appoint former Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera to the national list to Parliament while a decision was yet to be taken on the other seat.
However, it has been learned that the name of President’s Counsel Faizer Musthapha for the remaining national list seat was sent to the Election Commission without the approval of the party leaders of the New Democratic Front.
