Sita Rohini Ellawala Ratwatte, wife of the late Dr. Seevali Ratwatte, former Chairman of the Upali Group of Companies, passed away on Saturday (28) at the age of 94.
She was the sister-in-law of the late Prime Minister Sirimavo Ratwatte Dias Bandaranaike.
Mrs. Ratwatte was the mother of the Chairperson of Upali Newspapers Ltd., and Upali Group of Companies Lakmani Ratwatte Welgama and Eranthika Sirimavo Ratwatte Kelegama, and the mother-in-law of Managing Director of Upali Group of Companies Nimal Welgama and the late Dr. Saman Kelegama.
She was the grandmother of Karishma Welgama, Chandana Kelegama and Jayathri Kelegama.
A distinguished Buddhist philanthropist, she played a significant role in public life. She was the producer of the popular Sinhala movie Pembara Madhu directed by Sugathapala Senarath Yapa.
She was a past pupil of St. Bridget’s Convent, Colombo.
Her remains lie at her residence, No 12, Shady Grove Avenue, Colombo 8.
Her funeral is scheduled to take place at 4. 00 PM today (30) at the General Cemetery, Borella.
