MP Ramanathan Archchuna told Parliament yesterday that there is no point in coming to Parliament from Jaffna if the Opposition does not allocate time to express the views of Opposition MPs in Parliament.
Speaking in Parliament yesterday, the MP said that although a privilege issue was raised in this regard, no solution has been given so far to the problem.
“On December 18, I raised an issue related to my parliamentary privilege. I gave a letter to the Speaker. I am not being allocated time to speak.
Time has not been allocated to me today also. I have even sent a letter to the opposition. But I am still not being allocated time to speak. I am coming to Parliament from Jaffna. If I am not being allocated time to speak, there is no point in coming to Parliament just sitting there and looking on. “If the Opposition does not give us time to speak in Parliament, how can we move forward as one country?” he said.
Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne said a decision has been made to appoint a committee to look into the MP’s issue and action will be taken according to the report submitted by the committee.
