Cabinet Spokesman, Health and Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa stated that investigation units will be established within ministries to ensure accountability of public institutions to the people.
The Minister made this statement during the media briefing held yesterday (31) at the Government Information Department to announce the Cabinet decisions.
He noted that numerous complaints regarding irregularities, corruption, and fraud within the public service during previous Governments are being received by the Presidential Secretariat, the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministerial offices, and public representatives.
He further highlighted that the public currently has a desire to present certain information and complaints.
Taking this public need into account, the Cabinet has approved a proposal presented by the President to establish investigation units within ministries under the leadership of a Grade 1 officer with relevant experience in investigations or an executive officer of the public service.
Accordingly, a framework is being developed to systematically investigate complaints and information submitted by the public.
