News Room : Sri Lankan Consulate office in Chengdu

Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath stated that discussions were held regarding establishing a consulate office in Chengdu during President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s visit to China and it was agreed to establish the consulate office.

During a media briefing held yesterday (22) at the Government Information Department, the Minister mentioned that the provincial governor had agreed to provide the necessary facilities for the establishment of the consulate office free.

The minister also highlighted that during President Dissanayake’s visit to China, both parties engaged in deep discussions to enhance economic, political and cultural cooperation.

“During this visit, we received a grant of 500 million Yuan from China.We expect to use this grant for future development activities. Additionally, China provided school uniforms for our students this year and promised to do the same for 2026. We also signed another memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote Sri Lanka within China, aiming to attract more tourists to our country,” the minister said.
