The rule of law had collapsed, Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) MP Hector Appuhamy said speaking to journalists in Colombo.

“Everyone is scared. The crime rate has increased. People are wondering what the police are doing. Even multimillionaires are being killed in the middle of Colombo.

The previous Gotabaya Rajapaksa government undermined all aspects of national security and the present government is following in its footsteps, the MP said.

“After the Easter Sunday attack Gotabaya insisted that he would safeguard national security. However, he ended up making the entire nation feeling unsafe. No investor will come here,” he said.

Sri Lankans who are talented and can make a difference do not get the opportunity to contribute to national development, he said.

“People are leaving the country in droves not only

because of the economic downturn but also because of fear. The country is insecure. There is a lot of drugs. The country is facing a serious economic crisis. There is no medicine in hospitals. Businesses are closing down because of taxes. The electricity bill is unbearable. On top of that there is a crime spree. I am wondering if the government is behind the drug menace and the crime spree. It’s not the first time that those behind the government has orchestrated an evil plan to gain power,” he said.
