Police on Saturday (27) arrested a man and his wife on suspicion of cheating some people of five billion rupees through a pyramid scheme.Police said arrests had been made in Pilimathalawa, Kandy.
One of the suspects is a teacher and Basnayake Nilame and his wife is an actress, the police said.They had misused the popularity of the actress and the prestige associated with the title of Basnayake Nilame to lure people into parting with money, police said.The police have urged the victims of the racketeers to lodge complaints.
