United National Party (UNP) Chairman Vajira Abeywardena issuing a communiqué said that appropriate action will be taken regarding the appointment of President’s Counsel Faizer Musthapha as a national list MP after having discussion with the partner parties of the New Democratic Front.
“The decision regarding filling the post of the national list MPs should be taken by the party leaders of the New Democratic Front. The Secretary of the New Democratic Front has not been given any authority to fill the vacancy of the post of national list MPs.
“Filling the vacancy for national list MPs in violation of that decision is a complete breach of trust and it is a political theft.
“When it was decided to contest the General Election under the gas cylinder symbol, the leaders of the partner parties discussed and reached a common understanding.
“Accordingly, it was decided to enter into an agreement and form a party called the New Democratic Front.
“The agreements containing the relevant documents were handed over to NDF Secretary Sharmila Perera.
“But up to date, copies of the agreements have not been given to any of the partner parties.”
