No final decision about preceding procession through Colombo
In celebration of International Workers’ Day, the National People’s Power (NPP) government has decided to hold its official May Day rally on Thursday, May 1, at Galle Face Green in Colombo.
The event will be held under the leadership of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, along with key leaders of the government. However, a final decision has not yet been made regarding whether a May Day parade will accompany the rally.
The main opposition SJB will hold its May Day rally in Talawakelle, led by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and other senior party members.
The SLPP has decided to hold its rally at the Ananda Samarakoon Open Air Theatre in Nugegoda, while a faction of the SLFP, led by Nimal Siripala de Silva, plans to hold its own rally in Colombo.
As of Friday, the UNP has not made arrangements for a May Day rally.Multiple political parties and organizations across Sri Lanka have already announced plans to hold May Day rallies in various regions of the country.
