A severely burned body was found in the rear seat of a vehicle near a shrine in the jungle along the Habarana-Polonnaruwa main road on Wednesday night (25). The police said they were trying to determine whether this was a case of murder or suicide.
The double cab belonged to a businessman from Dekatana, Biyagama, who is involved in supplying asphalt for road construction. The businessman’s son has informed police that the vehicle was primarily used by his father for work related purposes.
Police suspect the body is that of Sunil Withanathanthri, the above-mentioned businessman, however, due to the extent of the burns, identification will require DNA testing, a senior police officer said.
