An unidentified gunman opened fire near the entrance to the Mannar court complex, killing two persons yesterday (16) morning. Police identified the victims as Sabrian Arul (63) and Selvakumar Jude (42). Two other persons received gunshot injuries.
The wounded were rushed to the Mannar hospital.
A woman speaking on the condition of anonymity said that a pillion rider had got down from a motorcycle and opened fire on a group of people before fleeing the scene.
Police believe the attack may have been linked to an incident at Uyilankulam on June 10, 2022 where two brothers were killed following a dispute with a group of people during a cart race.
