Sri Lanka Police yesterday received 125 jeeps purchased through the Indian credit line. The police will receive 500 jeeps altogether.Indian High Commissioner, Gopal Baglay presented the keys to a jeep as a symbolic gesture to Minister of Public Security, Tiran Alles.
Speaking at the event, Alles said that some police stations do not have vehicles that are needed to carry out the most basic of duties.
“We need these jeeps to stop robberies and for drug raids. We were not able to expand the police fleet of vehicles for the past three years,” he said.
