News Room : Showers in Eastern, Uva, Central, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces – The Island

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the morning.

Cloudy skies can be expected over most parts of the island during the morning.

Showers will occur at times in Eastern, Uva and North-central provinces and in Mullaitivu and Matale districts while showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere of the island after 2.00 p.m. Fairly heavy showers about 75 mm are likely at some places in Uva, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Ampara district

Winds will be north-easterly or easterly and wind speed will be (20-30) kmph. Wind speed may increase up to (40-45) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Colombo to Mannar via Puttalam.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Colombo to Mannar via Puttalam can be fairly rough at times  but  strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

The public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
